Punta Cana Dominican Republic

This was our 3rd time at Punta Cana Club Med, the last time being 10 years ago. The resort has undergone extensive renovations to the main bar/sitting area and restaurant, plus a new water park, and it's definitely a huge improvement. They did a really nice job, especially around the main bar. There's tons of seating and the decor is really nice. The grounds are so well kept and beautiful, and while it's a bit of a walk from the rooms to the different areas given the size of the resort, it's such a pretty property it didn't bother us at all, plus there's a shuttle that runs constantly for people who prefer a ride.
We went with our extended family consisting of grandparents and 3 families with a total of 6 kids ranging in age from 4 to 18, and there was plenty of choice for everyone. We all participated in most of the activities - that's one of the reasons we love Club Med, there's always so much to do, plus the circus is a big draw. The app is great because you can see the daily schedule and what's going on every hour. The fitness palapa overlooking the ocean is beautiful.
We were there over Christmas, so it was very busy and there were a LOT of little kids, so it was a bit chaotic, but there were places to get some quiet time - at the Zen pool for the adults, although we barely used it - and even at one part of the beach that was a bit quieter. We also had no trouble getting pool/beach chairs, although we did go fairly early to get them. The pool chairs fill up quickly but there were usually beach chairs available, but the shaded palapas go quickly. The beach is much nicer than I remembered it, it was very well maintained and the water was warm and beautiful. We spent a lot more time at the beach this time.
The accommodations were very nice, the rooms have all been renovated. They didn't feel super clean, but they were passable. The shower could really use a ledge or shelf for the products - they all sat on the floor which is a bit gross. The women's washrooms in the main bar/restaurant area were broken almost the entire week we were there which was a huge inconvenience and also pretty gross- before they closed the washroom all the stalls were overflowing and clogged.
The food was mediocre. There's plenty of choice at the 2 restaurants, and the food looks good, but when you actually eat it most of it was only OK. Most of the beef was almost raw and I kept asking them to re-cook it. There were a few meals/dishes that were really good - the noodles, guacamole and tacos, and breakfast (love the crepes) and the Club Med bread is great, but for the most part the food is not amazing. That's the trade off with an all inclusive, the food is never that good.
The service was OK, but not great. There were many times at meals that I was looking for a server for coffee/wine/cutlery and ended up helping myself. I also remember the GO team being a bit more engaging and fun in previous visits.
Still, despite these 'cons', overall it was an amazing week and we would definitely go back. It's an easy, fun vacation for families in a great location that's very close to the airport with lots to do, and Club Med just has a great vibe. I love the Club Med songs/music and the nightly dances led by the GOs. It's not a luxury resort, but it's very nice, a lot of fun, and a great choice for a family vacation.

From the very first moment, we felt at home. Our family stay was smooth, joyful, and full of unforgettable memories. The warm welcome, the amazing activities, and especially the water park that stole our kids’ hearts filled our days with happiness.
What truly made the difference was the incredible energy and kindness of the G.O. team. And a very special mention to HOUDA her positive energy, her genuine smile that lights up every encounter, and her constant care made us feel truly special. She was always there, making sure everything was perfect. Houda has a natural leadership that touches people’s hearts she is truly made to be a future manager.
